Welcome to the Wilkes RV travel blog! We intend to do some full time traveling and are making preparations for travel. This site will document our adventures beginning with the initial ‘Sea Trials’ for testing and finding out what we believe will be needed on board. We have had a lot of help from many veteran full time people in the process and will attempt to give full credit where credit is due.
I am a retired Mechanical Engineer who oddly enough spent 25 years in the semiconductor business building and maintaining ‘wafer fabs’ that manufactured a multitude of semiconductor ‘chips’. On the side I love to tinker around. Adding solar panels and an inverter were the first two projects of mine on our new RV. Jeri is about to be retired. She is a CPA and has worked for our local United Way for just about her entire career. Currently, she is the CFO but will be retiring early next year. She is also the writer of the family, though I’ve been doing quite a bit here. Her hobbies are singing, crossword puzzles, walking, hiking and biking. We are looking forward to taking the bikes out much more often once we are full time RV’ers.
We halve almost always had some form of alternate vehicle. Ski and bay boats, Puget Sound boats and even 40 ft cruisers that we leased. We had a 27 ft Komfort TT for a number of years. While we seem to be at relative peace with recreational vehicle ‘systems’ every new type and size has its own obstacles and considerations. Learning is always part of the process.
We will be adopting a new Havanese puppy (welcome Maggie Mae!) before we head out on our new adventures. But our children and grandchildren are our hearts. A daughter and her husband and two precious granddaughters are in E. WA and our son and beautiful daughter-in-law are in Pensacola, FL. Two separate corners of our country which is just one more reason to have a traveling home.
We are not forging new ground here but will document what we see and do and the people we meet along the way. Below is the map of our initial locations for our ‘Sea Trials’.
